Located in an historic neighborhood in Montevideo, near the walls of the old colonial city and across the street from the Opera House, this café was at the forefront of a movement to revitalize a part of the city that had fallen into decay.  At the time our client purchased the building, the neighborhood was deserted, but it has since become one of the liviest places in Montevideo – a popular pedestrian zone which comes to life at night.  Our goal, in keeping with our client’s role as a pioneer in this urban revitalization, was to create a powerful contemporary space.  Limited by the historical commission of Montevideo as to what we could do with the exterior of the building, we came up with a highly abstract renovation of the interior which also includes lighting, furniture and graphic design.
